Presentation

Rebecka Lundborg studies Art history at Uppsala University. She photographs and directs the blog Picturing the World (rebeckalundborg.blogspot.com), an art project moreover a blog manifesting the art of life.

Rebecka is an idealist; in the effort of aiming to develop as a human being she is a devoted vegan, a keen spokesperson for fair trade, second hand shopping and pre-separation at source.

Despite (or because of) her veganism Rebecka has developed an almost obsessive fascination for food and raw meat, in particular. For Rebecka food is energy, but food is also art. Other motives in art she finds intriguing is manifesting the beauty in objects often seen as ugly or simply ordinary. The question of what is considered art is a discourse often occupying her mind. Furthermore, simplicity is often the most fulfilled, she argues. Details and colors are other fetishisms.

Rebecka has a partiality for abstract art; often revealed in her photographs. Abstract art has a more subtle way of portraying feelings, she stresses, leaving the beholder with more freedom in contemplation and interpretation (if the viewer do wish reading art on a deeper level). Jackson Pollock’s abstract expressionism she regard as being genius, presenting one example of her soft spots.

The photographic medium she finds particularly interesting since it is an art form created in interaction with the constantly changing world surrounding us. A photograph takes form in a dialogue between the artist and the objects portrayed.

Rebecka wishes to present the viewer her picture of the world and in this exhibition her picture of Christmas; a time we have upon us. As life as a hole consists of contrasts Christmas is contradiction. It is a time of warmth, love and a celebration of life but it is also a time of commercialism, solitude and a reminder of the differences separating us humans from each other; most apparent in the essentially different life conditions on the earth.

The photographs are an aim for Rebecka to project these feelings towards Christmas, and in the bigger picture, towards life itself.
